it all started with a roadside stand…
the chicken eggs were starting to pile up and Brianne decided to try and make a few bucks selling them roadside (and get these eggs taken home by anyone who was willing to stop). after wooden pallets were torn apart, the stand was constructed and the eggs were out for $5 a dozen. they were such a hit she decided to add veggies and flowers. the flowers were such a success, she decided to start a flower farm.
Allen offered her a gift she truly feels indebted to him for; the gift of borrowed land. in May of 2021, seeds were sown, seedlings planted and day after day they were tended to. by late July, the snapdragons and cosmos were in bloom and some of the early dahlias were starting to appear. Cole, a three year old “future farmer” was given the honor of cutting the first dahlia of the season.
friends and family visit, often cutting flowers and popping cherry tomatoes and sugar snap peas into their mouths. nobody leaves empty handed; kids are urged to pick flowers and anyone else just might find themselves with an armful of zucchini and sunflowers… it is worthy of including the donkey eats a very fair share of the carrots.
as they so often do, days fly by. Brianne understands the value in slowing down and taking it all in… one day while sprawled out across the middle of the gardens, a thought occurred to her, “I don’t grow flowers - flowers grow me.”
it was in that moment she realized she was where she was meant to be and that everything in life is essentially just borrowed… our time, the love we give and take, this land and all the flowers.
it was then that The Borrowed Flower Farm was born.
